Backlinks

Back links are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. A backlink id any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, any domains...) from another web node. Search engines often use these backlink as one of the factors for ranking. A website can employ some techniques called SEO to increase the number of backlinks pointing to their website. Some of the search engines offer a mechanism to determine the number of backlinks they are recorded to a particular webpage. Google has recently added a new webmaster tool which allows webmasters to view more backlinks to their websites. Some website software keeps track of the backlinks, Eg: - Wiki.
Generally page rank 4 and above are only listed in the backlink list. Page rank 5 and above that is obtained as backlink is considered as valuable. Its just not only important to have many backlinks, but more useful are good and quality backlinks than ordinary backlinks.

All that matters are the following factors:-

1. Quality backlinks
2. Content in those pages
3. Backlink page title Keyword density
4. Backlink Quantity etc.

Factors to consider in accepting Backlinks: -

1. Linking page has right context
2. Page title matches the link
3. The content is also up to the mark
4. Page rank of a page not more than 4
5. Its better to have backlinks from .gov, .org, or any .country sites
